How to Create an eCommerce WordPress Site in 5 Minutes

When you’re ready to start selling products online, there are plenty of shopping cart platforms and website builders to choose from. But if you want to design and build your own eCommerce website from scratch, then there’s no better choice than WordPress with WooCommerce. In fact, as long as you know the basics of WordPress, this powerful combination will allow you to create an eCommerce site without needing any developer help at all! Here’s how to do it in five minutes or less…

Step 1 - Install WordPress

WordPress is a free and easy-to-use content management system (CMS) that you can use to create your own website or online store. You can download WordPress here. When you first install WordPress, it’ll ask you for some details about your site like its name, username, password, email address and general theme info. If you don’t have a domain name yet, it will walk you through setting one up as well.

Step 2 -Choose your theme

There are thousands of free and premium WordPress themes you can use to build your site. While most free themes won’t look as nice as premium ones, they will give you a great foundation on which to build your site. Selecting a theme is part art, part science. A good theme will allow your products (and product images) to shine through and make it easy for shoppers to find what they’re looking for—even if they don’t know exactly what that is yet.

Step 3 -Import your theme

There are countless WordPress themes that are specifically designed for ecommerce. However, most of them require plugins to be installed, which can significantly add to your workload. Instead of jumping straight into a theme, opt for a free blogging platform first and import a WordPress theme after you’ve gotten your feet wet with blogging. If you want to learn more about importing WordPress themes, check out our guide on the subject here .

Step 4 -Edit your pages using drag & drop elementor page builders

Drag & drop builder is so easy and fast! Why don’t you use it? Elementor is a visual page builder for WordPress that lets you build your website without writing code. Simply add content and Elementor takes care of all formatting, ensuring that everything stays looking sharp on any device.

Step 5 -Replace your own Products

Once you have your website set up, it’s time to add products. To get started, head over to WooCommerce > Products and click on Add New or hit that big blue button that says Add Product. Enter in a product name, select your product category from the dropdown box and give your product a nice detailed description. You can always go back and edit any of these details at a later time by going into individual product pages.

Step 6 - Start selling!

Now that you have your free WordPress site up and running, here’s how you can start selling from it. Selling from your own website gives you more control over product selection, content, distribution and branding. There are three main ways of making money from your online store: 1) offer physical products for sale; 2) host other people’s digital products on a platform or 3) offer a service such as coaching. Or do all three!

Conclusion

Starting an online business doesn’t have to be complicated. With all of the available platforms, learning how to create a WordPress ecommerce website can seem like a difficult and daunting task—but it doesn’t have to be! We’ve outlined everything you need in order to get started: from choosing a platform, setting up your site, picking out hosting, and even finding professional templates.
